How to Get Rid of Neck Crepiness

A woman with clear skin

When it comes to skincare, we tend to put the focus on our faces. We cleanse, nourish with moisturisers, and indulge with the occasional face mask in a bid to keep the effects of ageing at bay.

It’s all too easy to neglect the neck in favour of our face, forgetting to extend the level of care past our jawlines. However, if over time you don’t give it the same attention, you may develop some neck crepiness.

These deep‐set, horizontal neck lines and creases can appear seemingly overnight. It doesn’t matter how bright and youthful your face might look, having these lines across your neck could add years to your appearance. So if you want your neck to look as youthful as your face, reducing the appearance of your neck crepiness is key.

What causes neck crepiness?

While a lack of skincare can be a contributing factor, it’s not the only reason that neck lines appear. As we get older, our skin produces less collagen and as a result, begins to lose its strength and elasticity. This can cause the skin on your neck to become weaker and start to sag and crease.

The sun also contributes to the development of neck crepiness. We all understand the importance of keeping our skin protected from the sun but that doesn’t mean we always practice what we preach. Regular, unprotected exposure speeds up the skin ageing process and in turn can cause crepiness. Your genetic makeup is also a contributing factor, as some people are more prone to developing crepiness than others. Other common causes include smoking and not drinking enough water. Here are our top tips for reducing the appearance of neck crepiness.

1. Use topical skin care treatments

Add a few topical skin care treatments to your skincare regime that are specifically designed to cater for your neck. Look for products like No7 Restore & Renew FACE & NECK MULTI ACTION Serum to help neck feel firmer, look visibly smoother and less crepey and reduce the appearance of stubborn neck lines.

2. Wear SPF every day

As sun damage is a major cause of ageing, it’s important to apply SPF to your neck every day, no matter the weather. To ensure you’re getting the maximum protection, always use an SPF of at least 15 or above and re‐apply throughout the day.

Also consider using a day cream for your neck, such as No7 Restore & Renew FACE & NECK MULTI ACTION Day Cream, for SPF protection, age-defying results and to keep your skin moisturised .

3. Exfoliate

Regular exfoliation can help reduce the appearance of crepiness. Start exfoliating your neck with a gentle exfoliator such as No7 Serum Activating Pads, moving 1 pad in circular motions to remove any dead skin cells from the surface and help support the skin’s natural turnover process.

Limit this to just once per week or you could risk causing additional damage to your skin, potentially making your neck crepiness look even more prominent.
