This pencil made a lovely black lower eyeliner - at first - but the crayon crumbled and blocked the pencil sharpener so I was unable to continue using it. A waste of time and money, unfortunately!

I don't know what Boots has done to its eye-liner pencils, but they are now hard like a child's colouring pencil and nearly impossible to apply. I have tried pre-scribbling on my hand and on a piece of paper, applying it with moisturiser, wetting the tip first, sharpening the pencil down further, but to no avail. They simply tear at your skin and do little. I bought another thinking I had just been unlucky, but it was the same. I found the stump of an old one in my makeup bag, and it was, as I remembered: creamy, easy to apply and very effective. That one was a proper wooden pencil, unlike the reconstituted plastic shafts now used. Boots have clearly long since changed their 'recipe'. These pencils are now truly awful. My mother had found the same and already thrown hers out. I will not be buying another, but searching for an alternative brand. I recommend people stay well away.

This is in fact a great eyeliner. Looks good, lasts ages, goes on very smoothly. Can be worn either as slick line or as smudgier line. When I first bought it I too had the issues reported by other reviewers and was annoyed that I had forked out for an eyeliner that didn't in fact draw a line at all, even after repeated attempts! Like a pen with no ink in it. It didn't need to be sharpened, as the pencil had a tip. But then the tip broke off in my bag and I sharpened it - et voila, I found the key to this liner. Sharpen it before use, even if it doesn't seem to need it. Perhaps the material dries out quickly. Anyway, if you don't sharpen it, it doesn't draw a line. But once you sharpen it it glides on smoothly and lasts all day. In fact it's better than other "long-lasting" eyeliners I have tried by the likes of Dior/ Clinique/ Lancome/ Bobbi Brown etc. As it looks very intense on and is smooth to apply. No smudging unless you deliberately smudge it a bit to create a smokier look. So here I am back again to buy a new one.

Unbelievably poor! It's like trying to write an essay using a pencil without lead! Looks the part, but after stretchhhhhhhhing my poor eyelid to its extreme and then presssssssssing down as hard as possible, I'm lucky if I can see the faintest of lines. An absolute waste of money and complete let down.

This product does not seem to want to leave any mark on my skin apart from with great pressure which is not suitable for around my eyes. I have had no success in applying this product around my eyes. I bought the product trusting the brand, which in this case I can see was a mistake. Boots please fix this product,it does not do what it is designed for.

I have always bought my eye pencils from Boots No.7 however these are the worst I have ever had. I bought a blue one but it is not blue and definitely does not apply well to the eyes. Very very disappointed

This pencil was not what I was expecting as it is far too hard - I was wanting a really soft eye pencil and I can't think how you would use this one anywhere in the eye area.

Nice colour (deepest blue) but completely useless. Too hard/dry eye pencil. It is impossible to apply any colour on the eyes. I do not recommend.

I have been using this type of eye pencil for years, but I won't be buying it again because it appears to have changed for the worse. The 'lead' is harder and paler than it used to be and so barely leaves a mark. I hope they start making the old version again...

I did not like this product as I found it almost impossible to get any colour on to my eyes. The pencil seemed very hard. I bought two different colours in this pencil type, and had the same problem with both. The colours look lovely, but didn't work well for me at all.
